Wooden Low D whistles (thoughts?)

Being a newbie, I have not searched the archives.

I have a retired friend 6 ft. 4 inches tall with large hands. Charles is retired. At one time he taught orchestra, and at one time did a lot of recorder playing. Currently he plays viola regularly rehearsing with a group. His wife has been regularly teaching violin for at least the last 25 years.

He would like to begin playing the Low D whistle. He is well aware of how to care for a wood instrument. He does not want a polymer or carbony. He wants wood.

Are there any good quality wooden low D whistles available?

Any comments on wooden Low D whistles would be appreciated.

Is he ‘retired’?

Yes Charles is retired.

I guess looking at the Low D page here … In 2005 Walt Sweet made a fine looking Low D in Rosewood. I guess that is a good starting place.

Regular poster DrPhill plays a Bleazey Low D, sure he will give you some advice

There’s these: http://www.sweetheartflute.com/lowwhistle.html

I have a Dymondwood version of this whistle in the easy reach fingering and love it.

Garvie, Swayne.

Noah Herbison is another maker of wooden low D’s.
