Wooden Irish Whistle

Does anyone know of dealers of good wooden Irish whistles? I have seen the one by Erick the flute maker and I have played Gene Milligan whistles which are a little pricy by very nice. Thinking about buying a wood whistle.
Thanks,
Scottie

There are lots of them. Several are right here on the C&F board. Brewerpaul (Paul Busman) makes as fine a wooden whistle as money can buy. None better. Tommy Dion makes really nice wooden whistles, he’s on here too. O’brian, Fred Rose, Ormiston, Walt Sweet, there are lots of others I’m not remembering right now. Hey, I’m old!

I personally rate the Ormiston as the easiest playing whistle I own, with the smoothest transition between octaves, good dynamics and a slightly breathy sound, which I’ve got used to. The Ormiston C is magic. The Fred Rose has a more focused, reedy tone, is quieter - good for playing indoors - but is harder to handle if you haven’t played it for a while. Both are first rate instruments, imo. If either of these makers made a whistle in G or F, I’d get it like a shot.

Since you asked for dealers and not makers I have to say that I don’t know of anyone that deals exclusively in wooden Irish whistles. Most whistle dealers will have some though, so a Google search for Irish, penny, tin whistles should turn up a lot of them.
Now to join everyone else so far and recommend a maker, for an inexpensive wooden whistle I’ll recommend Tyrone Head, The Flutemaker. I have four of his whistles and feel they are a good value.

Have you tried Doc Jones’ Irish Flute Store whistle section.
