I have a 8 keyed Chris Wilkes D flute (R&R) with an additional Eb body (3 keyed). THEY ARE NOW FOR SALE!. I’ve had them both for over 10 years and picked them up directly from Chris. Both are in excellent playing condition, no cracks and blow beautifully.
As I just bought 2 other flutes I am selling them both.
Either post here or feel free to email me at contact@blackwoodband.com. You are, of course, welcome to make me an offer..
Since so many of you asked I uploaded a few pics of the Chris Wilkes D/Eb combo on the web.
I kept the pixels relatively large to keep as much detail as possible, so those of you with dial-up forgive me.
Not sure what he bought, but one of the flutes he just sold was a 5 key Wilkes Bb flute (To a board member who shall remain nameless unless he wants to come out and brag a bit )
Aodhan
P.S. Sven plays flute in his band Blackwood here in the Phoenix area. AMAZING flute player, if you’re ever in the Phoenix area catch them for a great night!
Aodhan (For those that don’t know, that’s a Douglas Adams reference. In the great Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Earth’s sole entry is “mostly harmless”)
The chance to buy a Chris Wilkes flute with eight keys, in perfect condition, with lovely bands, a large-hole Rudall model, doesn’t come around very often. About as often as an Olwell flute, and those generally don’t have eight keys. There is at least an eight year wait for a flute like this.
The accompanying Eb section is just an additional incentive. If we weren’t building the house in Ireland I’d jump at the chance to buy it. But I am in total sell mode now. Pity it won’t be around and available for purchase in two or three years.
I doubt whoever buys it will be selling it again. I know I wouldn’t! Best of luck to the happy buyer. Play your fingers to the bone.
“Factory” is a bit of a stretch.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen an eight-key Olwell.
But there may be one out there somewhere.
The man likes a challenge and is continually learning and experimenting.
Yeah, I was trying to be funny by saying “factory.”
Last I had asked him, he said that he hadn’t yet made a footjoint that worked with C#/C keys. On his footjoints (and perhaps some others) the holes are (merely) vents.
Oh, well; perhaps he’ll design one for us if we complain loudly enough.
But there may be a prototype out there . . . anyone? Bueller?
I wanted to add a note here to anyone wanting to deal with Sven.
He is a top-notch fellow. I bought a flute from him not that long ago and was very pleased with how professional and courteous he was. Everything was as discussed with no surprises. The flute and case were well packed.
I know, sounds like an eBay note…
but wanted anyone who was hesitant to not be that concerned. As always, though, ask informed questions, etc. Very important. Even those of us with the best intentions can forget to say or mention something.
