I apologize if this a question that has been answered somewhere else. You could always refer me to that post if it is. Who is Planxty Dale? Or is that the name of style. I’ve seen that name/term come up in some song titles.

I think the full name is Planxty Dale Wisely.
A planxty is a tune in honor of someone. Some have said that pretty much only Turlough O’Carolan used the term back in the day.
Yup. Nobody really knows what the word means, but “tune in honor of somebody” fits, since it only appears as titles of (Carolan’s) tunes, and always with someone’s name. I really think it’s a private joke of old Turlough’s.
Dale Wisely is a famous whistler and supersonic jet test pilot in Alabama.
I’m thinking that the word planxty was a concoction of Turlough’s. From what I have heard/read, he chose the word because it resembled the sound of the harp being plucked
