I have heard Mary Bergin described as “too perfect” on the whistle which is like describing Clapton as “too good” on guitar, or Bush as being “too (fill in the blank)” on foreign policy…
Now I understand that Ms. Bergin plays a Generation on a number of tunes…
She sometimes comes to NYC to do workshops and play at the Blarney Star. She purportedly played Sindts for a while I think, but what’s the diff; she can play anything…
So what you are illustrating is that there is indeed! a region (on a Venn diagram) that is occupied by people who are too good AND play a 6$ instrument AND NOT be Mary Bergin…
For a minute there I didnt see a point in playing…

Anecdotal evidence suggests that Mary Bergin plays Generation whistles either when she plays solo or when she finds one she likes, and that she plays Sindt whistles either when she plays with her sister and/or brother-in-law (Antionette and Joe McKenna) or when she can’t find a Gen she likes.
It also seems that she plays Copelands and O’Riordans in A. Gen doesn’t make an A.
This evidence is based on the 5 or 6 times I’ve seen her play.
Other players who are too good that play $6 instruments would include Paddy Maloney, Bill Ochs, L.E. McCullogh and a lot of dead guys.
A denture wearer, thank God. Or she had some braces fitted. That first LP’s pic shows some serious snaggle tooth, maybe years of gnawing on fipples? Or is it just that mineral heavy limestone water?
