Whistles have shortened my commute to/from work

I tell you, it used to be that going to and from work I hit all the lights when they are red, run into traffic stopped dead the drive seemed to take forever. Now that I have a whistle in my car and want to stop for long red lights so I practice a little..what happens? I’ll tell you what happens. I hit nothing but light traffic and green lights. Now that I want to stop here and there for aminute or two..I can’t.
I’m not going to risk jinxing myself though. That whistle will always be in the car when I’m driving it.

Isn’t that the worst? Happened to me a bunch today – I really wanted to practice the tunes in my tunes to learn folder, but the light kept turning green before I could get through 16 bars. Arrrgh!

Hah! Ain’t it the truth.

For a little while I did the driving with the knee on long, light traffic straights. Then I started imagining what would happen if the airbag went off unexpectedly. :boggle:

Now I exercise patience and wait until I’m really stopped.

Funny, whistles have given me the longest commute I’ve ever had to deal with!

Careful with the whistle…a tap from behind at a stop light can cause you to move forward enough to tap that front bumper on the car ahead of you. Can you say “Phineas Gage?”

I’ll have to take a chance with that “tap from behind at a stoplight” because whistling at lights makes them painless!
I live near Kokomo, IN, which is called “stop light city” as the “bypass” is full of malls and stores, requiring lights. I stop, shift into first (I like traditional driving AND music!) and start playing. I usually get almost through a tune before the light changes.
And, yes, I get WAY too many green lights now!!
P.S. I tried that knee driving too, but it scares me!

Long straightaways are the best, for those of us stupid enough to play while driving w/knees. I have probably learned 40% of my tunes on the interstate. I used to get piping lessons from my teacher when we would drive to competitions. [Practice chanters only!]

i think you folks are all playing with fire whistling while driving. haven’t you gotten any tickets? i do however like to play in drive through lines at the banks and fast food places. that makes the wait go easier. i accidently learned how to play left-handed. whistling in the drivers seat isn’t bad but flute playing is another thing. makes me wish i was in a country where the driver sat on the right.
