Whistle Gone Missing

Check it out!

I came home and did all the regular boring domestic stuff I do. I’m getting ready to relax for the night - fire up the computer. And I see laying on the couch next to my desk, the cover for my Reyburn Low Bb. This one to be specific: http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?t=38421

I’m thinking, “Well, I didn’t play this yesterday - WTF?”

So I look on the shelf where I keep my favorites. No Reyburn Low Bb. I look on my desk where I sometimes lay a whistle down after I play it - no Reyburn. I look all over the house - no Reyburn Low Bb.

Crap!

I check the window to the room. It’s locked.

I check all the doors and windows, They all seem to have been locked.

I notice someone has moved a chair in the living room more on center to the TV.

So, it’s all very strange. It looks like someone came in, watched a little TV, checked out some of the whistles on the shelf, and decided the Reyburn Low Bb was the whistle they wanted.

I must admit, they show great taste in making such a fine selection - but I’m sure going to miss that whistle.

Now I have to figure out how they got in, and prevent it from happening again.

Weird!

That sucks!!! :frowning:
Are you sure you didn’t just over look it?
Or it might just be the infamous whistle thief i heard of, he could have done it…

I’m 99% sure it’s gone.

I never put the whistle cover where I found it. I always put the whistle in the same place when not in use (in the cover). I didn’t play it this weekend.

I can’t think of any other explanation.

Sorry to hear about the loss.

Was the TV on a channel you normally watch?

Do you mind saying where you live? (Of course, given your recent experience, it’d be perfectly understandable if you didn’t want to tell any of us where to look for some great whistles!)

My two guesses as to your location are Orange County or China. I see that you have a strong interest in China. This may be totally whacked, but your story reminded me of a friend saying that when she lived in Communist China there were people who were assigned to keep an eye on foreigners. Even the cleaning woman was primarily a spy.

You may be more organized than I am, but in my house lost things usually reappear when I sort through the clutter. Life would be simpler if all I had to do was whistle!

Boy do I feel sheepish. Though the “loss” was not my doing.

My 17 year old son came on-line late this evening and I told him the whistle was lost.

He likes the Bb because he can alternate between Nunchaku (nunchucks) martial art moves and a simple rendition of Silent night with it. I still haven’t determined how the two are related, but I suppose it has something to do with the way a 17 year old’s mind works.

He says he was “playing” the Bb this weekend. I ask “what did you do with it?” “I put it away.” was the answer.

After thoroughly scouring the room wherein the whistle lives, I find that “away” is 17 year old speak for “under the couch cushions.”

I’m so happy I feel like I got an early Christmas present. So now you can all breathe a sigh of relief and have a chuckle at my expense. Boy do I feel silly.

But I still don’t know who moved the chair.

Since I tortured you all with my evening drama, I’ll share a pic of me with my shifty eyed son. We live in “the OC” - Southern California.

All’s well that ends well.

OMG- a face to go with the name. What a great looking pair of guys and it seems that you like being together. Believe me, there are worse things than having your kid play your whistles…

 What a funny story. Glad it has a good ending. That is a wonderful picture of your son and yourself—truly good feelings are shining through there.

When weird things happen here I go straight to my eighteen year old son and he can usually supply a “reasonable” explanation as to how things vanish or end up in mysterious places.

Slan,
D.

I took it and I’m going to travel the world sending you pictures of it in famous locations. :stuck_out_tongue: Nah, not really.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Maybe someone in your house is doing something with it for gift purposes for later this month… a new sheath perhaps…if that’s the case, sorry for ruining the surprise!

oh, you found it…
happy happy, joy joy!!

That’s funny. My wife complains that I can’t sit still. She would have loved me as a 17-year-old!

I’d be asking what role the whistle played in the martial arts part? Yikes!

Look, tell him if he’s going to take a whistle to practice Nunchaku with, it has to be the Chrome Moly Serpent . . . :smiling_imp:

Now that he has done. I have the prototype Village Smithy in A. Right dangerous - in fact I chipped my tooth a tiny bit on it. Great fun, except being the prototype, the holes are out of alignment. :sniffle:

Get him a set of these:

Um…

Is that the Right Reverend WB Anderson?
