…but, I still want to try out all whistles to find which is the best I like - or at least 2 or 3 I like best.
I’m sure these questions pop up like mushrooms after the rain in the forum
Money is an issue, living in a place where Low whistles aren’t imported even is an issue - and this creates a long line of questions …
Gotta sum it up to one or two:
From reviews I’ve read, the Chieftain Low D of the New line seems very nice - in all aspects - but then, maybe an Overton is easier to play? More expensive…
And there’s the Shaw, inexpensive as much - but should I get the Low D again?
Any of you like the idea of having 3,4 Low D’s ?
I have a Susato Low D - now I like it, but then I haven’t played any other whistle - so should I get another Low D or maybe Low F or E… Of course having all scales is optimal - but what would be optimal and concurrent with my pocket?
I love big holes for some reason… makes the finger feel comfortably inside.
I’d also love to get a nice D whistle - something to replace my Waltons squeeky sounding one.
Would appreciate all your help.
I have to note that I looked in local 2nd hand websites and found nothing, not even one whistle. Ebay is not an option.
If you like big holes get a Howard. It’s got big holes and it’s not expensive.
Yep, as I said elsewhere, large enough to fit a banana into. Seriously, as a whistle player of but one day’s experience, I can get every note out of it, slurring is easy, and half holing too. When my fingers will do as I want without having to try too hard it’ll be great.
It feels nice to hold, as it’s wide, but slightly shorter than most with an easy finger reach. Sounds lovely to me as well; sort of woody and flutey to my ears (which seems odd for a brass tube)
