no, I’m not asking anyone if they want any.
I know someone who plays this tune on his whistle, and I’m wondering where I can find the dots for it, and possibly an mp3 as well. I have never heard of it, and so I’m at a loss here. Anyone? TIA!! ![]()
I know Whiskey Before Breakfast…

I wonder if it could be the same tune?

and my favourite is Ardbeg 17 years old. But I would never drink any before breakfast. A Mug of Brown Ale might be ok, unless when I’m sick, then it is tea that I want.
ahhh, claudine, i love ardbeg myself. which, of course, is a whisky, not a whiskey..

Ah, a perfect example of bait-and-switch, Heather. Lure me into the thread under false pretenses. I’ve a good mind to report you to the whistle police. ![]()
Anyway, while I’m visiting, just let me say that I don’t know that one. I know “Whiskey Before Breakfast,” “Whiskey You’re The Devil,” “Whiskey In The Jar,” “Whiskey Johnny,” and “When The Saints Come Marching In.” But I don’t know “Whiskey In The Morning.” Sorry.
Merry Chiffmas,
Will O’Ban
ahhh amar I’m glad to see someone else pointing out the not so subtle difference…
though ardberg is little harsh for my morning taste - macallan is the breakfast of kings
sorry for further hijacking the thread
Yes! With a raw egg in it!
MarkB
and if you ARE talking “Whiskey 'Fore Breakfast” - make sure you listen to Mike Cross’ version with words:
“Lord, preserve us,
and protect us.
We’ve been drinking
Whiskey 'Fore Breakfast!”

There’s a contra dance band in the DC area, three gentlemen named Al Taylor (fiddle), Ritchie Schuman (fiddle, mandolin, tenor banjo, guitar, piano), and Steve Benka (hammered dulcimer) (shown left to right) who call themselves
Whiskers Before Breakfast

Thanks to Ted Crane’s dance database for providing this info! http://www.tedcrane.com/DanceDB/DisplayBand.com?key=WHISKERS_BEFORE_BREAKFAST

hey, that’s jerry lewis on the left..
Oh wait!! Maybe that’s the name of it! It was said to me in passing, so I could have gotten it wrong. You know, breakfast is in the morning, hence my mangling of the name.
Sounds good to me.
Thanks Will!
Oh, and sorry for the old bait and switch…i figure I had to get you all to look at this thread some how. Just don’t report me to to whistle police TOO quickly…I’ll send you a bottle of whiskey if you don’t! ![]()
Soooo…since I am not a whiskey (or shall I say whisky) connoisseur, pray tell what the difference is? Does the lack of an “e” make for a better beverage? And ardbeg is a good whisky? What makes it better than say, Jim Beam? ![]()
Whisky-with-no-e is Scotch
Whiskey-with-an-e is Irish
Ardbeg is a malt scotch. Jim Beam is bourbon. Johnny Walker is a blended scotch.
Bourbon is made from corn (maize to non-US folks). Scotch and Irish are made from barley (malted, unmalted, or a blend).
Blended scotches mix several different malt scotches together with less expensive, less flavorful grain whisky to get a consistant taste. Generally, although there are distinct regional styles, each malt whisky is slightly different from every other.
Ardbeg and Macallan are good, but I’m partial to Laphroig, Bowmore, and Lagavulin (all Islay malts like Ardbeg - very pronounced peatsmoke-and-seaweed overtones).
Don’t get us started - whisk[e]y lovers can go on for hours.
well no wonder I spell it with an “e”
and here I thought I was guilty of a faux pas or something

Oh! I did know some of this. I just didn’t know I knew it until you mentioned it all, DC
My husband is a purist and doesn’t like the blended. He’s into single malt scotch…Glenfiddich? Don’t know if that’s any good though. Oh, but since it’s SCOTCH, he’d be drinking whisky, right? ![]()

This is something I have noticed…I just asked my husband, and he would have gone on and on if I hadn’t told him that I didn’t want to hear anymore ![]()
Thanks, DC, for your detailed explanation. I may have to try some whiskey sometime…anyone have any suggestions on what I should try? ![]()
i really don’t know irish whiskeys too well, but there are a handfull of single malt irish whiskeys too, go for a bushmills single malt. ![]()

Nothing finer!
Slan,
D.
there there now…nothing finer? don’t get me started… ![]()
here’s some more trivia, did you know irish whiskey used be spelled as in the scottish spelling, whisky, as well?
They changed their spelling in order to distinguish themselves from the scots uisge beatha. ![]()
slainte.

I couldn’t agree more…in fact, it gets the creative juices flowing…uh…as it were.

…yes, I had a very misguided youth. My adulthood doesn’t seem to be much of an improvement:D ![]()
Great pictures, Joseph! We have a bottle of Jameson here (does that meet with approval, Amar?
). Does that make me cool?
I wonder if I were to drink some of it, if I could make those interesting little figures that you made…hmmmmmmm. Maybe it’s worth a try. It’s breakfast time here, so maybe I should have some Whiskey for Breakfast ![]()
(that last bit WAS an attempt to get the thread back on topic…not that I personally care if it’s OT, but it’s not very often that I actually START an ON topic thread.
