What's that smell?

Rabies, the other kissing disease.

Or to quote my father:

Hush little baby,
Hush quite a lot.
Babies get rabies,
And have to be shot!

I keep current on my rabies vaccination so I can kiss anything I want. Humans don’t really harbour rabies, we just get it and die.

This just goes to show that C&F is educational! During a discussion of skunks today, I was gratified to be able to bandy about skunk facts courtesy of this thread, particularly that they become WMD-capable at the tender age of a few weeks, refrain from spraying unless feeling very threatened, and ride about on shoes when young. I believe my audience was impressed!

AHHHAHAHAHHHAHA! Missed that the first time.

I’ve been bitten by a skunk. I was at the interpretive centre at a conservation area, which had several pens of wild animals. They were mostly critters which had been brought to a wild animal clinic after being found injured. For one reason or another, these were animals that couldn’t be released back into the wild after being repaired, so they stayed on.

Anyway, that day there was a crowd of kids around the raccoon pen. They had discovered that if they stuck their fingers through the wire, the raccoon would come over and touch their fingers. I was still pretty young, and bigger kids were monopolizing all available racoons. The next pen held a pair of skunks, and no one was paying them any attention. I decided to see if they’d come over to shake hands like the raccoons. The answer turned out to be no. One skunk came over to the wire, all right, but only to march right up to my finger and give it a good chomp.

In hindsight, it’s a damn good thing that there is no such thing as a wereskunk!

I believe I have known a few . . .
