what key is it?

Is the second degree of the G scale called G Dorian of A Dorian?

The first letter indicates the starting note. The word after indicates the mode (note spacings). Thus G major, G minor, G dorian. The mode starting on A (the second note of the G major scale) using the note spacings of the G major scale the would be A dorian.

Would you like a bit more elaborate explaination of what is meant by “minor”, “dorian”, or “mixolydian” or my favorite, “locrian”? Probably not.

I understand the important ones ,2nd and 6th,
major and minor.I’ve been to Rob Greenway’s web page.Anymore info on keys may cause a sensory over load and I may have to defrag my left hemisphere, but thanks I just wanted cleared up on that one point

On second thought what is Locrian? Sure doesn’t sound like it has anything to do with music.
