What about John Rutzen Flutes?

They look real nice! I never played one though, but I am sure they are great flutes. The one pictured is mainly designed for Baroque music, with a 415 tuning.
Come to think on it, this maker used to sell his flutes at Lark of the Morning, the blackwood flute for sale, has a delrin head and barrel. I wonder if he is still making flutes after all these years?

Just to add that I see this issue as small potatoes
and it seems to me Tal’s reasons for reviving the thread
make sense. There isn’t much point in putting lots
of energy into this, IMO.

The point is just that this sort of resurrection
isn’t working out, in fact, so Tal, it’s probably
best to err away from it.

I add that I personally like Talisiga, I think
he has been a helpful presence on the board
and for a long time. Most of us are eccentrics
one way or another, and most of what
folks are getting mad at is merely
eccentricity, not meanness.

A little more live and let live makes sense here,
if I may say so. I’ve watched Tal’s posts
for years. YOu know, he’s OK. And he adds
an interesting perspective on flutes and
music.

y’all’s ridiculous

I like flutes

Sorry I was abusive. I could have easily expressed myself in a more pleasant way, but I just don’t see why you need to dredge up a thread from seven years ago, which really doesn’t shed light on the subject. It just seemed to me that it was aimed at tricking folks into thinking they were responding to a current thread.

Michael

He’s been doin’ it for a while now.
Many of us are used to it.
He got ‘em goin’ for 2 or 3 pages one time before anyone mentioned it.
Well, explicitly, some of us had been hinting for a while.

It’s like bees, in your head,
you don’t have to like it.
but there they are.

I don’t think any intentional trickery is at work. I see this happen most often
with newbies to the forum who are going through the archive, reading all
the old threads, and don’t think about the impact when they respond to
those. I think Tal’s intent (can I call you tal? I can’t? Damn) was relatively
pure, even if I don’t agree with it.

i did it in the free reeds forum–tony mcmahon’s old site was no longer working, so i posted to an old, short thread about it, asking if anyone knew of his new site. they did. you all caught me–i was trying to trick the world into thinking tony mcmahon is a fine musician and a wonderful archiver and researcher.

Clip clop, clip clop, clip clop over the rickety bridge…

It is nowhere written that we must take this sort of thing
seriously. If people have a real issue about resurrected
posts, we’ve said what we think. If it continues
you can write Dale.

Just a little more kindness and toleration will go a long way.
I’ve seen some nasty things go down on
these boards, but Talisiga’s posts have never
been among them.

Some of Talisga’s posts prompt parody, and mockery
is easy, and I’ve noticed the beginning
of a tendency to gang up on him.

I hope we won’t. It really isn’t necessary.
Again, Tal has never been mean to anybody
here. He’s contributed faithfully and largely
without incident for years.

Watch out Stone. You misspelled his name. Now he’s gonna manufacture a towering, monumental zeppelin of verbal Onanism, stand back, luxuriate in all the attention it gets him, and never contribute a jot of information about playing Irish music on the flute (which IS, talasiga, in spite of what you think, what this place is designed for).

If anything, I’d be thrilled if this marked a tendency to ignore him. I’ve never seen anyone other than Rob or myself so much as spar with the half pint. Gary Kelly used to clout him hard enough to stop his yammering (usually). Wish he still posted here. I know who I’d rather talk with about playing Irish music. At least he’d have something to germane to say.

Nice looking flutes. Anybody played one?

Michael

Tal plays music other than Irish music, he’s seriously
influenced by and involved in Indian music. That’s valuable.
The fluteboard is about all the music played on wooden
flutes, not just about ITM, and here Tal has contributed
a good deal. Also about music theory, which
does pertain to more general concerns.. Helpful stuff.

I think you are reading a good deal into mere eccentricity.
Your advice makes sense, of course. If you feel as you
do, I hope you will take it and ignore
his posts.

Whatever. I have an undergraduate degree in music theory/composition (B.A., University of Arizona, 2001) and I don’t blather on and on here about counterpoint, fugues, augmented 9ths, or Schenkerian analysis because no one cares and it doesn’t relate to playing Irish music which is, demonstrably, (uh oh, now I’m sounding and punctuating like the Tally-howler, with my unnecessary dependent clauses and eight thousand syllables when one will do) the point of this entire website.

I love it when we talk about Rudalls, Olwells, Wilkeses, Hammies, jigs, reels and all the rest of it. I hate it when this becomes the Tallywhacker parade.

made it through the entire second page without Tal, hardly seems as if it is his parade.

Perhaps a petition to ban him from the forum?

Oh, and a defined set of rules laying out the acceptable topics!

Maybe a few words on appropriate responses?

please! let us first compose theses on flute playing, so that we will be able to thus judge who is worthy of speaking on the forum. only then will i no longer have to think for myself and judge every comment accordingly, but follow everything blindly, trusting fully in the infallibility of the peer review process.

could you? i promise not to tell matt molloy about it.

Some people come to “The Chiff & Fipple Irish Flute on-line community” to help others…
Some come here to learn…
Some come here to share knowledge…
Some come here and ask what,to them,is a silly question…
Some people come here to enjoy the company of like-minded fellow human beings…
SOME PEOPLE COME HERE TO BE ARGUMENTATIVE AND POMPOUS
Takes all types to make a world dunnit ??

I’d love to hear talk about Rutzen’s too.

I am sorry that I have inadvertently put new wine in an old bottle.
I am sorry to upset your New Testament sensibilities.

Go to it Tal! I would never have known about Rutzen if I hadn’t seen your post.

He’s on The List !
