We were on the TeeVee this morning...

Promoting the local San Diego trad events over the St. Pat’s weekend:

Spent too much time getting chatted up by the news anchor about our local American Idol (like I have a clue about popular culture) finalist who works at The Field, but at least we got in a couple of times through the first tune, “The Hare’s Paw”, before they cut to commercial.

very cool, Michael. and i also liked the way you smile

Too much talk, not enough piping …

Well done.

That website won’t load more than the first minute (only talk) or such, before some automatic reloader of their’s kicks in and starts loading it again, all over from the beginning of the commercial.

As a response to her question about American What’s-it-Called, it would’ve been cool if you all had instead launched into a lively tune. Tho I guess they’d be pissed, that you’d be snubbing her advertisement for their show.

What I should have said was “American Idol, never heard of it…”

BTW, the second tune in your set, the one that got cut off to go to commercial, is Mayor Harrison’s Fedora, not Major Harrison’s Fedora. Harrison was the mayor of Chicago when Francis O’Neill was Chief of Police there. Apparently he wore a fedora, and that’s where this tune got its name.

I really love watching ‘on air personalities’ read a question and than not know what to do with the resulting answer.

Great performance. Too bad they couldn’t give you enough time to do more.

Wow, congrats, eskin! You’re great!

Nice job, guys. (finally got to see it - only possible on a high speed connection).

Yeah, I knew I f’d up immediately when it came out of my mouth… Considering how much the anchor threw me for a loop with that completely unexpected question about American Idol, its amazing that I was able to come up with any names at all.

We were supposed to play for a full two minutes, but I think only got about 45 seconds of music before they cut to commercial…

Well, not having the name would be much more traditional, as I’m sure you know. Or there’s always the Frankie Gavin approach, i.e. call it The Head of Cabbage #4.

Oh lawdy…crickets, did I detect crickets??

Its funny how long that pause seemed at the time, but is only a couple of seconds on the recording.

Great stuff eskin, what’s with the little banner at the bottom of the screen that says ‘St. Pattys day’ on it? It’s Saint Pat’s or Paddy’s day for goodness sake, typical TV headline writers balls-up that one!!
Or do you really call it St. Patty’s day in the US
Great stuff anyway, a pity it was so short.

Lovely playing there, Eskin.

What can I say, it was a FOX station…

Nice stuff, as expected. Too bad they cut it so short.

One good point about the little time that you got to play after the inane twittering of the anchor, was the sound quality. None of the usual ‘everyone huddle around the mic and what sound is recorded is the best it’s going to get’ situation. A nice even balance beteen all the instruments I thought.
Wouldn’t it be great to get that sort of sound quality from a Pub session?

Very nice! It seems to be the American way to spend three times as much time talking about the music (or inanely jabbering about distantly related issues) as is spend actually, um, playing the music!

You guys sound great!

Tom
