WD Sweet whistle

I have been doing a little Christmas shopping and I came across this: http://www.whistleanddrum.com/wd-sweet-model-pennywhistle-in-delrin. Does anyone have one of these? Does anyone know where I can find a review? There do not seem to be any previous threads about it.

Thanks!

I can only remember a couple of threads on these, besides Walt’s own posts during development.

Try these:

Here’s one on Walt’s threads:

Hope that helps.

Yes. That helps a lot. Thanks!

Just got my WD Sweet today, courtesy of Elderly. It’s very nice!

My previous favorite (for playing alone, at least) was my Burke composite narrow D. But that one gets drowned out very easily.

Not too long ago I picked up a Reyburn session bore, used, from a fellow chiff&fippler, as I’d read they were good, and loud. But the Reyburn is quite loud, more so than I anticipated.

So I ordered a WD Sweet, because based on what I’d read, it seemed like it might have the tone I like in my Burke DCN but be louder (and also less expensive than the Burke composite session bore). And yep – that indeed is what I got. The WD isn’t quite as loud as the Reyburn but for me that’s good; I don’t think I need the volume of the Reyburn.

The WD Sweet is… chunkier than any other high D I’ve owned. Thicker walls. There’s something about that thickness that I like. And, although it’s the least important detail, I do prefer the smooth appearance of the WD over the more angled look of the Burke.

The WD is my new favorite. Eager to try it in a session!
