Thanks for putting my fears to rest, all. Mustāve been the additives, then.
Well. Iāve been doing a lot of yapping and retracting, lately! ![]()

Nano - How do you get Patrick Olwell to build you a prototype flute out of Dogwood? That just sounds so cool!
As for the tung oil thing, it does seem to me there is pure tung oil and then the tung oil (which is boiled and full of addatives) that is commonly found in hardware stores. Iām betting that is the difference.

Jayhawk, in my talks over the phone w/ Patrick (who is very much a craftsman in love with woods of all kinds), he kept bringing up this major chunk of dogwood that has been seasoning in his back yard for 10 or more years, but never got around to trying it. This was in the context of blackwood substitutes should the need arise. Well, I bit, and ordered one. As itās a prototype, it will be nonreturnable, but Iām not overly concerned.
The color (description only, havenāt seen any) sounds a bit glaring for my tastes session-wise, but weāll see. A really pretty and darker wood is persimmon. I sorta wish Iād asked for that once I saw some, but the hay is in the barn, as they say.
Anyone know more about persimmon?
