Visit with Mack Hoover

I am visiting a friend in Grand Junction. I found out from my Friend’s mom that Mack Hoover goes to her church. I had bought a whitecap form Mack in 2004 so I was really excited to hear that he lives here, and I really wanted to come and visit him. My friend’s made some calls and drove me over today to meet Mack and see his workshop.

I just want to start by saying what a pleasure it was to meet him. He did not know me but he was really nice and friendly. I also got to meet his wife. Both of them where really nice.

He showed me a whole bunch of his whistles. Whitecaps, blacktops, his wooden ones, and his full brass ones. The brass ones where especially pretty. I got to see his shop and all of the cool things he makes. He was also working on a neat machine that will crack an egg.

He surprised me by letting me pick out an whistle to take home! I now have a really sweet Mack-made Aluminum whitecap whistle. Really pretty. He finished and engraved it right before me. We also got to test it out and play some songs together.

Anyways, I just wanted to say what a great guy Mack is and that I really had a great time!

What a treat. Sounds like you had a great time. Pictures of your new whistle?

I’m really glad to hear Mack is still welcoming random visitors. I still smile when I think of my visit there in 2002. Congrats on your new whistle!

I’m so glad to hear of Mack. Many years ago now, Chiff and Fipple had a raffle based on donations to Dale’s worthy charities. I was incredibly lucky to win a little aluminum E Whistle made by Mr. Hoover. To this day, this is my most favorite whistle. Its sound is sweet, its intonation excellent, its controlability superb. I often play and enjoy this little whistle and consider it one of my most valued possessions. I sit here gazing at it on my coffee table as I type. Thank you Mr. Mack Hoover.

Mack Hoover makes a great whistle, and he’s a very kind and nice fella as well.

I have several of his whistles. They are quite good, they sound and feel a lot like Burkes, and are a tremendous value.
