VIRUS ALERT

If you have recently added serpent@serpentmusic.com to your Outlook address book, please run a virus scan on your system. I just received a virus, probably klez or something similar from the size of it, in my email. Others in your AB probably did, too. Fortunately, I use webmail which doesn’t automatically run attachments, so I just deleted it.

If you are using Outlook, or, especially, Outlook Express, please go to the Microsoft site and get the latest security updates for your software.

If you receive an email from someone you don’t know, titled something like “A new funny website!!”, with a size around 124K, don’t open it.

If you use Outlook and have the “preview” feature turned on, I

strongly

suggest that you turn it off, and check sizes, subjects, and sender, of your emails before opening them. If you are in the least suspicious of origin, don’t open the email - delete it on the spot and empty the trash.

Just an FYI post - hope it helps someone!

Ahhh, another day I LOVE my iMac!

So true, Tom…so true…
Best.
Byll

… not to worry, Byll and Tom … there are nasty worms and virii out there just for you and your iMac. Just not as prevalent, since they’re not as popular…

Cheers,
BW

Note that Klez does not require that recipients’ addresses be in an infected computer’s e-mail app’s address book. It looks for e-mail addresses in documents and cached web pages as well, so if someone visits a web page with your address in the code, you’re susceptible to receiving a copy of the bug.

As for Mac vulnerability, although it’s true that there exist viruses that can infect the platform, other than the cross-platform Word macro viruses they’re very uncommon. There are definite benefits to using the minority platform.
