I just saw the devastation in the upper Yarra Valley on a news site. Not knowing anything at all about Australia’s geography, I was immediately concerned for Oz Whistles. Google maps says Mitch is about 9 hours from that area; still, my thoughts and prayers go out to the people affected by that disaster.

And Redwolf, and me, and many of the rest of us, I’m sure.
Whereabouts is Wombat? (Haven’t heard from him in a while!)
And from us! You are all in our thoughts.

Hi. Thanks for your concern, IB. These days I divide my time between Australia and Chicago, but I’m in Aus at the moment. I live about two hours drive south of the home of Oz Whistles in the same mountains. Despite very high temperatures, we’ve been spared the fires up here. Ironically, it’s cold and raining as I write.
I think these have been the worst fires we’ve ever experienced. I can’t think of any regular Chiffer who might have been personally threatened but I suspect Michael Grinter lives close to one of the worst hit areas.
It’s strange that at the same time as the one area in Oz is getting the forest fires, there’s another area that is getting so much rain they are suffering from flooding.
