Vent Holes

Peter Kosel has directions for a flute with two vent holes below hole 6. He says: These are usually not covered. Their purpose is to improve the sound of the lower two notes.

Will this help with the lower two notes on a low d? I’d like to strengthen the E on mine.

I don’t know about your low d whistle, I have a wonderful PVC flute that is a low d made by Patrick Young. It has two vent holes as you described.

tomcat,

Could you send me the measurements on your low d? Where are all of the holes and how big are they?

Where did you buy the whistle?

Thanks, Walt

Mr Kosel is using the proven Rudall-Carte flute design modified for whistle. This design gives more acoustic power to the lower notes.
