Unknown Low Whistle

Can anyone identify this whistle on eBay? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261451702966&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en

Hi Mike

Looking at the slight offset that I think I see on the bottom hole, could it be one of Hans Bracker’s whistles?

David

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply. I don’t think it can be a Bracker unless it was a very early design. The head looks, to me at least, very different from Hans’s heads. Maybe it’s a new maker. They are cropping up all the time. Here’s another whistle on eBay I can’t make out http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261452050346?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649.

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike

The whistle I was talking about was the one in your second post :tomato:

As to the one with rings I have no idea.

David

Hi David,

I see what you mean but I don’t think it’s an Impempe. The slide is too far up the whistle. I could be wrong though and have asked for better pictures of the head.

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike

Ask for a close up picture of the bottom of the whistle. I think I can see a line above the bottom hole, given that the bottom hole looks offset slightly, it could be a Burke and the line is the turning point to allow you to adjust the offset.

David

Hi Davy,

You might be right. The beak looks as though it might be tipped with delrin which might make it an early Burke low D.

Mike

Hi Mike

It is a Burke low C, the seller has relisted it with revised description, the inscription on the head of the whistle indicates it is a Burke from 2001.

David

Hi David,

It’s the same whistle but she misidentified it as a Low D. The earlier Burkes, I gather, were easier to play in the upper second octave but required more air. Still, I wouldn’t mind trying it if I can manage the stretch. She reckons it’s only 40mm between the bottom two holes but that can’t be right. I’m waiting for her to get back to me.

That first whistle is a real puzzle though. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Mike

Hi Mike

The only whistles I have seen with that kind of detailing were Alba whistles, but the head design doesn’t look like any I have seen on Alba whistles.

David

PS
I went to the Alba website and got a warning from AVG about an exploit on the website:- Exploit Blackhat SEO (type 1703).

Hi David,

That’s a real mystery that whistle. But then maybe we wouldn’t know of the maker anyway.

Mike
