Phill, could you please explain how to set up TWJCalc using external files for scale patterns and for default whistle? Also the latest 1.02 version does not have a zip with compiled files. I am totally confused as regards to using external files.

Sure Hans, I will do that. I think though that I will do that on the web site so I can do it once well. Thanks for prompting me. I will have an explanation of the use of ScalePatterns later today.
As for your other question concerning compiled files…
I release two files for public use:
*TWJCalc_x.xx,jar, which is executable, and all you need to run either the applet version or the standalone version
*TWJCalc_x.xxsrc.zip which should contain only the source files. This is really only for developers. I initially released the compiled (.java) files by mistake, but have now reduced them to save bandwidth/server space. I am old enough to remember when this was desirable .
To get the full functionality of TWJCalc double click on the jar file. It will run like a program, in a frame, with menus. I have not tested this on anything other than Windoze operating system, but it has been standard functionality for years so should work anywhere. Let me know if you have a problem…
Thanks Ron, that is the feature I originally wrote it for. It demonstrates nicely the answer to the question ‘what is the relationship between hole size and position?’. The answer is ‘complex’.
I have downloaded the zip file and it runs when I click on the unzipped jar file. Like Hans, I too would like to know what files to modify for scale insertion etc. so I will check your website when your ready, but where might that be?
Looks good. I wondered if you’d played around with looking at how off the shelf cheapies compare according to the theory in terms of cut off frequencies and so on.
Well that was a bit of a dumb question on my part I must admit, however, I am running an add-on to my Firefox web browser called NoSquint for us older types with poor eyes that allows me to increase the size of web pages for easy viewing. I have it set to 145% so when I had viewed your page several times I failed to scroll down to see the extra info below the applet. Oh well - it was still a dumb question, but some of the readers may be interested in NoSquint. It’s a great addition!

I have difficulty describing some of the things like ‘Chromatic’ and the reason for a ‘Major Plus’ scale pattern. If anyone can suggest better wording I would be delighted to include their improvements…
