Tunes

Many tunes have multiple names, what is the best source to see which tunes go by several names? For instance, and I could be wrong, but in the Clarke tutor there is tune called Doherty’s Reel, I have heard a tune called the Killarney Boys of Pleasure which sounds like the same tune. There are so many other tunes that I have come across with several names…would love to search a tune to see all the names it goes by, thanks…cheers.

DOHERTY’S REEL [1]. AKA and see "Docherty’s Reel,” “The Gwebarra (Bridge) Reel,” “Johnny Doherty’s Reel,” “The Killarney Boys of Pleasure,” “The New Fashioned Habit.” Irish, Reel. E Dorian. Standard tuning. AABB. The title references the famous County Donegal fiddler, John Doherty (1895-1980) or his brother Mickey, who came from a family of tinkers and musicians who travelled Donegal. The “Gweebarra Reel” is often mis-titled “Doherty’s Reel.”

John Doherty (1895-1980)

Every version of Miss McLeods reel sounds different to me…I mean, really different…

ronan browne and desi wilkinson from Cran do a slowed-down version of this on flutes and it sounds magical - sometimes you hear a new version of a well-known tune and it makes you appreciate just how beautiful it is as though you are hearing it for the first time again
