Tunes for a Two-Step

Our band is playing for a wedding in a couple of weeks time. One of the dances is a two-step. Does anyone have any suggestions on what type of tune and what tempo might work for this. Any specific tunes?

4-4 time. Think honky-tonk. Definitely not Irish, but Bob Wills, Ray Price, Johnny Bush, etc., etc.

Forgive me for this hijack–I know nothing about two-step
I’m afraid. There has been a report here that
you are making G flutes. The question has also come up
whether you can make G bodies for F flute headjoints,
and possibly vice versa. Grateful if you can say
something about this, best, Jim

Here’s a two step that’s easy to play.

I got it from the site mentioned a few threads down (Garageband for Irish flute), but didn’t search using “Two step”.

I put “two step” in the search box, and came up with another 5 or 6 two steps.

I was wondering if swingy polkas might work … being 2/4 and all … ?

Up and Away and The Merry Girl might be fun

Just occurred to me that there is a great set of two-steps on the last track of John Carty’s most recent solo album, i will if i can.

Thanks for all the responses and links. Looks like there are quite a few tune possibilities, and also a slightly sped up barn dance should work.

To answer Jim Stone’s question, I will be making a G flute using the same head and foot as the F flute (Hawkes and Son design).

The fiddler James Morrison recorded a few tunes labeled as two-steps, but I’m not sure if they are the kind of tune you need. They are very unusual for irish music, as far as I can tell.

Errr… yeah, they’re tunes he learned in America. Are there any native two-steps in Ireland?

They may have been called two-steps by a record manufacturer for lack of a better term.

How about The Happy One-Step?

Most country-western dancing is the two-step here in the USA, isn’t it?
