Toxic Chanters

Well, living on a narrowboat I DO live close to the edge (of the towpath!). But seriously, I used to work at a plant research farm in Cornwall, and was pretty well informed as to safe and unsafe wild foods.

Thanks glands

I had heard that most wood reactions (at least those in the Cocobolo/rosewood family and most tropical hardwoods) are akin to contact dermatitis rather than systemic, and if I understand you correctly I think you’ve confirmed that. So possibly little risk of anaphylactic shock (sp?) but risk of acute pneumonic or chronic empysema-like symptoms, does that sound right? I know breathing poison ivy can kill too, but the mechanics of the reaction are different from normal “allergy”, right?

I would guess that woods with active toxins like taxol would be a different matter, as would wood with live spores in, like spalted woods.

This came up in another Forum thread recently…
