tone improvement

I am still working on playing whistle. Hardest inst. for me yet.
Last night I had the realization that instead of trying to play faster or learning more songs, that I really need to work on my tone.
Three notes sound better than 10 poor notes.
I am trying to pay attention to where exactly the whistle blows in tune, air pressure, thats the hardest, and places to breathe.
Going from 2nd octave gives me tone probs , but I am working over & over.
I have heard the notes in 2nd dont have to be blown harder, just with a narrower stream. True?? I have practiced kinda tightening my mouth for 2nd. and had some sucess.

ANY suggestions?? I truly want to learn this instrument.
For some reason my wife thinks I sound best on a thumb tweaked Clarke original, I like the plability of my Mellow dog , but she says it sounds harsh in comparison.//
again suggestions.

Im sorry one more thing.
I just got a dixon , plastic in G. when I play it it sounds real breathey to me, but when I do a vid to hear it it doesnt. Do some whistles sound breathey to the player & a few feet away, sound sweet. Sweet was her description of the Dixon.

Sorry for so many questions

Thanks
Steve

Yes, bingo, a good insight. Whistles never sound the same to the player as they do to other listeners in the room. The breathy components of the sound just don’t carry very far. Which is why, for evaluation, I always recommend listening to your whistle in the hands of another player. Or recording it from a few feet away. Or playing into a microphone while listening through headphones.
