Hi gang,

I’ve recorded a new tune for my website. Its the Thrush in the Morning (yes, I’ve heard the joke :laughing: ) and its a lovely cheerful tune to banish this horrible Easter weather.

To me they sound like a set in Bb or C. They sound really mellow for being a D set :smiley:

Cheers…I do prefer the smooooother type of sound and playing, and a few people have told me that my playing style would go very well on a flat set. I’d love to get a set in C…I think that would be right up my street, but I need to earn a few more pennies before I can decide who to place the order with. I’d love a Froment C set, but the looooong waiting time would be a bit of a problem.

Yep. Long waiting lists makes you cry :astonished: .
Thats the thing that bugs me the most about Uilleann pipes. You wanna get your hands on all those good looking, great souding sets. You wanna get one in C, one in B and so on. But it costs more than your house does and they’ll arrive in time for your grandchildren’s children to play them :laughing:

nods These are the qualities that endear uilleann pipers to me…ie, they are willing to make a massive investment in terms of time, money and effort. The news isn’t all bad about waiting times though…some very respectable makers can deliver within a couple of years.

With regard to the mellowness, yes, I made a decision fairly early on to play in a very controlled and flowing style…I think its a reflection of my personality.

a bit off topic, but i found a whistle recording of this tune on you tube and was wondering if anyone knew what sort of tin whisle michael Eskin is playing on his tuition video?

According to Michael’s web-site, he is using a Michael Burke whistle (and does it so well!)

Yes, its a Burke wide bore brass Session D. I’ll be adding an Uilleann piping version as well once we get some more humidity in the air here in SoCal.

Phew, amen to that. I feel like my face is going to crack and flake off.
So, by that comment, I’d imagine the pipes don’t behave very well in this dry weather down here? How do you deal with that?

Cheers for that. ive just ordered one, and with over two dollars to the ££, it was pretty reasonable. Just hope i dont get stung on the import duty.
