"The Reluctant Reg Reed", or.. The Pilgrim's Progr

Greetings Tweedlers,

ok.. I finally managed to tie on my reg reed blades without any cracks, woo hoo. (Working on the reg reed instead of a chanter because I am still waiting for drill rod to make a mandrel; I have accepted that a life of piping meanings perpetually waiting for something or other).
The sides close up, things looking good… start the scrape. Gee it looks so easy on the video. I purposely held back not wanting to thin too much, like the last one ( actually deformed the edges.. toss another one). Instead of a cró I get a whistle. A high pitched, steady whistle. The hawks on our hills are giving me dirty looks, as I am evidently offending them in their hawkish tongue.
Has anyone ever had this happen? Any ideas what I did wrong?
Thanks in advance as always.
