Yeah. Happened last night at Lakeponte church. The usual group was augmented by a small string and wind section in formal attire. And in the midst of all this formality out comes the Susato. I have to admit it sounded GREAT. I think of the Susato as vinegar. Not great by itself or when too much is consumed, but works well when added in right measure to something else. The striking thing was how it cut throught all that rich sound and sort of climbed up over everying else and came thought with what I would call “character”. It wasn’t just a shrill piccolo sound.

Hmm, I’ve got a friend who’d really take offense at that. She’s a serious flutist, and plays a mean piccolo. I could describe it a lot of ways, but shrill would not be one of them. ![]()
Don’t tell her.

I bet she’d take offense at you describing her piccolo playing as average, too… ![]()

Oh come on…It’s obvious he’s using a different definition of the word. Perhaps “lacking distinction or eminence” or “worthy of little regard” (courtesty of http://www.m-w.com ) ![]()
Or perhaps a “mean” piccolo is halfway in length between a regular piccolo and a flute.
Or would that be a “median”? (Sometimes I wish I’d paid better attention during those high school algebra classes!).

John, I salute you. That was a master stroke of humor. “Mean Piccollo”!! I love it.
