TG4 is running a series focussing on women and their influence in traditional music : Mná an cheoil
This week’s program:
The second program explores the legacy of women in the Irish whistling and flute tradition. From the pioneering recordings by the late Peg McGrath, Catherine McEvoy and Mary Bergin from the early eighties, we follow the story of female whistle and flute players to the present day. Mná an Cheoil features musicians from around the country including Mary Bergin, Bríd O’Donohue, Catherine McEvoy and Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh.
Broadcast on Sunday with a repeat on Thursday. On-line on the TG4 player where it is archived after broadcast for at least a few weeks. I have no idea where the player is or isn’t available. Worth a look anyway. A proxy server may help access.
