Tallgrass Winds ?

I have been offerred a set of Tallgrass Winds flutes in exchange for an instrument that I have. The website looks good and has some great information. I would like a little more personal feedback on these instruments though.

Jessie, please feel free to respond as well if you see this.

These would be for my wife, who is basically a beginner that has had no trouble playing her Casey Burns flute. She prefers to play simple songs from dots as apposed to ripping off jigs and reels in the Irish trad.

What can you tell me?

They are not in the league with the Olwell bamboos (they are not burn-finished and they don’t have the classic Olwell embouchure), but they are fine bamboo flutes in reasonable tune with themselves and reality. The holes are made by burning a hot metal rod into the bamboo, just as many makers do. The embouchure holes are simple and on the small side, for a pure-ish, solid (though not extremely loud or particularly dynamic) tone. They are well-sanded and comfortable to hold and play. They smell great. To sum them up, they are reliable bamboo flutes that are good to have for the various keys, but they would not win first place in a contest (if Patrick Olwell, or, from what I hear, Chris Dawson of Rhiannon Flutes, were competing).

Hello,
Yesterday I received a F bammboo flute by Steven Cox, from Tallgrass Winds.
I have to say that the flute is really a great flute, very good in tune over the two octaves, it looks really nice and It has and incredible strong tonic note (F, in this case)
Great job, no dubt.
That’s my experience, I hope was usefull for you.
Bye,
Serafín.
