http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?p=475939#475939 got me wondering what other people use as their take-everywhere-I-go-in-the-bottom-of-my-bag-whistle. I’ve had a few, and have just ordered a 2 piece Doolin (can’t wait), but I like the look of dfernandez77’s Serpent village smithy.
My new (to me) Water Weasel Eb hasn’t left my pocket since I got it. I might want to carry a D if I thought that I’d ever encounter another person who’d want to play with me. But, since it’s all solo anyway, my Eb suits me fine! ![]()
a beat up Eb Gen is my TEIGITBOMBW.
Chieftain High D, Hammer Of the Gods. See http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?t=36869
Although I’m beginning to think I could use something a little quieter. You know . . . for dates. Like when the conversation runs out and they’ve only just brought the salads. Or when she wants to see one of those girly movies and I just can’t keep my attention on it.
Susato High D. Tough plastic, dark color, most reliable whistle in my stable.
That is the one I would go for if I was to choose.
Burke Session Pro brass (old tip).
Kevin Krell
It’s a really fine whistle.
I use a Delrin by what’s his name… ![]()
Usually have Susato D, C & B in my bag. They were with me in my rucksack this morning as I set off to the hill I was going to climb. I stopped at the post office on the way and collected my Water Weasel D which is now very likely to live in my bag and replace the Susato D. It is an AMAZING whistle!
I have a Gen or Sweetheart in my bag, and Freeman tweaked Gens in each car.
Herbison D, it’s usually floating around in the bottom of my pack somewhere.
Loren
Oak or Acorn D. Not because they are geat whistles. In fact, because they aren’t great whistles. Although I do like the Acorn.
My choice is the collapsing Laughing Whistle by Noah Herbison - goes everywher in my briefcase and has been to France twice.
Size is excellent (collapsed) and is quite quiet to satisfy that play anywhere desire.
Plays in tune as well!

I carry my “fiver” O’Brien set in the car. They are so strong walled I don’t have to worry about changes of weather or mis-steps or drops. They stay in the nice tartan bag they came in until used.
They are really a great set to carry with you. If I get stuck waiting at the mall, I can go out and put a CD on in the car and play along in any of five keys Bb-C-D-Eb-E. They are in tune - the only caveat is to warm them up pretty well if they have been setting in the car during the cold weather we have been getting.
Maybe “Down the road” a Busman Delrin will get the nod also. I love my Busmans but can’t trust the weather now.
I use my hybrid clare 2-piece with Hoover whitecap. It is small enough to fit in a shirt pocket so you won’t damage it by sitting on it. I took it on the plane to Florida over Christmas. One security guy turned to the other and asked '“What’s that?” when it went through the x-ray. I guess the brass tube looked like part of a weapon. The other guy recognized it as a whistle immediately and he wasn’t even a player.

My Laughing Whistle is ALWAYS in my pocketbook, hence, always with me.
i keep in clare 2 piece, a harmonica in d, and the pvc flute that i made all in my car. i am so ready whenever i meet someone who actually plays any of these and doesn’t have one on them.
I have carried whatever happens to be my favorite whistle at the time with me in my backpack. Right now, I have a homemade Bd whistle with a copper pipe body and a mouthpiece made by Trophy Music. The mouthpiece is the same one used on their slide whistles. I asked how much and what the minimum number would be I could order. They cost 25c and the minimum number I could order is 100. I have dibs on the song title “100 Fipples”. It has a remarkably mellow, warm sound. I feel I’m prepared for any emergency involving a dire lack of music.
In case you didn’t see it in the thread that was the genesis for this thread…
Serpent Village Smithy - Chrome Molybdenum with a Cedar Fipple Plug:

It rattles around in this bag and has killed a couple mice (Logitech Marble Mice). Chrome Moly is a very hard steel alloy that is bulletproof (safe in the presence of Dick Cheney).
Sounds like this (excuse the mediocre talent):
