Synwhistle Bagpipe recording

Well, this is the first recording I’ve done with the Synwhistle Bagpipes that I thought was fit for public consumption:

That’s the jig “Gander in the Pratie Hole.”

I’m enjoying these bagpipes, though I am by no means a piper. It would be interesting to see what a real piper could get out of them.

Way to go, James! Much better than anything I could have done on pipes… Thanks for sharing your new endeavor with all of us!!

My best to Shannon and the ferrets!

Blessings,

I can’t find the words…

iIthink we need Talasiga’s expertise here to name the scale for us :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

oh-ooh…peter is here…

Thanks, James. You’ve certainly made the decision whether to buy one of these things much easier.

Judging by the tone of these postings,my fear that I needed new speakers was unfounded.

Slan,
D.
:boggle:

And how many of us sounded wonderful at the very beginning of trying to learn an instrument?

Geez, people, give a person a break once in a while… after being on this board for around four years now, granted a short time compared to some of you, it would be nice to see an encouraging word or two once in a while when someone tries to share.

This not about Jim’s playing. What makes you think that? Do you have reason to assume his playing is bad? None of the posts have said anything about Jim’s paying on the bagwhistle not being up to snuff (except Jim himself). And I particularly made a point of thanking Jim. Would be nice to see that acknowledged once in a while.

I can’t speak for everyone, although I have a pretty good idea, but I wasn’t commenting on James’ playing. I think the remarks are directed at the instrument and how horribly out of tune it is. That’s the worst sounding thing I’ve ever heard.

Thats almost as badly out of tune as the average GHB practice chanter.

My apologies if I misunderstood anyone’s intentions-- so many of you have jumped all over James in the past that it sounded as though you were doing so again. I stand humbly corrected, and will try to override knee-jerk reactions in the future.

Tumbled off my soapbox now…

Maybe it’s a good idea for all of us to read posts rather than divine intentions.

Sure! Thanks for thanking him!

Glauber, you’re such a card.

It’s this new tarot deck… I knew there was something slightly off with it.

Edited to add: Though, Bloom, I wasn’t initially speaking of your post. I have re-read the thread, and I would have to say that the other were not terribly clear as to their intentions, hence my misunderstanding. But, I still see that I should have asked for clarification rather than assuming. You know what they say about that… :stuck_out_tongue:

In the low notes, especially. I was wondering about this, what makes this apparently so hard to control? Is it the reed? Maybe (and i’m guessing here) low air pressure comared to the UP?

Maybe it just takes time. Try again in a couple of years or so.

g

James, that’s sounds like me in my first month(s) of playing my Uilleann Pipes practice set.
I challenge ANYONE to knock a newbie Piper of any persuation until they have tried to play themselves.
They are surely the Devil’s instrument-but are the sound of Celtic Heaven in the hands of an accomplished player.

And thank you, Glauber, for thanking Bloomfield for thanking Jim!

You’re very welcome. Thank you!
