Grey Larson’s “Essential Guide to Irish Flute and Tinwhistle” I learned about it on this forum. I have spent a lot of years not really understanding how to ornament; this book is really good!
There shouldn’t be a problem with .wav files, most programs can read them. However, they are extremely large files, there may be some problem with that. If you can convert them to mp3 it would probably be a lot better.
because you can’t help yourself, unfortunately, this get dragged into this thread. i reread the thread i believe is in question. help me here, i count 9 posts by andrewk, 2 show signs of editing. in both cases, the time indicates they were edited less than an hour after the original posting. what that shows me is that andrew can edit and does. more people should. that does not prove hiding evidence. it could equally show responsibility and respect.
feelings of insult is not evidence either, unless accompanied by proof of insult. we just have been coming up with examples which are not proving insult. which i feel is damaging to the integrity of this forum. and to andrew. i dont’ know if i want to associate with people, who are appearing to me, to be unreasonable and special.
and if you notice, andrewk felt dale was setting him up. i mean what is a moderator doing entering in on a discussion like that? how can he responsibly moderate a discussion that he can’t handle himself? even andrew had stated he suspected dale’s motives. it does look that way doesn’t it? dale my have felt insult, simply because andrew exposed his motive. i wouldn’t want to have an ulterior motive exposed either, when i have them. i’d like to think i could admit to being human. i’ll continue this if you want , but let’s take it to another thread.
poor headwizer, all he wanted was to play the flute. sorry headwizer my friend in fluting, apoplogies for this muck.
dale is also censoring me, but that is another story. but good news i suppose for unreasonable and special people.
I’m working through the Larsen book as well, and based on comments from other flute/whistle players, as well as my own ears, just beware that Grey’s method is not “THE” way to ornament, it is “A” way to ornament on the flute and whistle.
He does, however, often indicate that what he is presenting may not be a common way to do something, and for that I give him a thumbs-up.
And for anyone else interested in the book, I recommend getting it on Amazon for cheaper ($26.37 at Amazon, vs. $39.95 on his site).
edit: because i can’t help myself…
i’ve had my morning coffee and made my appointment, now i’m back. if i had more work to do, i wouldn’t be here!
i want to say dale has done a brilliant job gettng this site going, maintaining it and structuring the forums as they are. i give him total support. i imagine it probably has all grown beyond the point of tolerance of such diverse personalities, and boneheads like myself.
i see this site as many discussions people can start or enter into. if a discussion is unpleasing, and there being such an array of forums and threads, the likehood is greater to find a discussion more appealing and so we simply move on. sort of like roaming around at a gathering of people who are a carrying on different converations. find a discussion that works for us, and stay out of the ones that might be working for others, but not for us. tolerance is a two way street.
again dale gets my recognition and support for allowing this gathering of friends to take place.
