I just received a soprano Eb/D/C-common headjoint set and all three are absolutely magnificent instruments, without question. The sound is so rich and full, no tuning problems, and the whistles are completely even all the way up & down the octaves with the most unbelievably solid low end I’ve ever played! I know people think they’re loud, and they’re definitely not quiet, but to me they have this gorgeous, singing, intense, clear, focused sound that I feel perfectly-compliments anything I play - pipers call it the ‘nyaaaaaa’
. And c’mon, whistles aren’t supposed to be quiet - they’re supposed to sing! When I hear the sound my Susatos make I can immediately hear in my head the sound of someone whistling with their mouth! My high D is normally a Copeland these days, but I’m definitely envisioning using this new Susato D (and the C and Eb as well) a lot more at gigs. And what’s even more amazing is that I got all 3 whistles for under $80! Fair play to Susato for a truly wonderful, terrific-quality product!
I agree. I have a bunch of fancy $100+ whistles that I still toodle on once in a while, but I always end up coming back to my Susato. It does what I want it to do when I want it to do it. I couldn’t ask for more than that! And hey, those guys in Lunasa play Susatos on stage so it must be good, right?! ![]()
I have only one Susato low G, and it is great. Quick response and even from bottom to top.
I have tried many good whistles, and some people try to convince me to get a high-end one, but I haven’t found another one that suits my needs better than the Susato.
Of course there are many I haven’t tried yet, but Susato is winning so far.
I am glad somebody likes the susato, besides me. It takes less air to use this whistle than My feadog or clare, and took a little time to adjust to. It is now one of my favorite whistle’s, but after reading some posts on this forum the susato sound was likened to a r*****r, and I was thinking maybe I should not play it to much.
I have been reading the forum for a couple of months, and this is my first post. Great information, and it helps keep me motivated to play. I am 38 and have been playing for 9 months but some days i wonder if i am making any progress. I will shut up for now ![]()
Murphy if you enjoy playing your Susato every day that is progress.
I’ll second that.
Play for the love of it and the progress will probably come by itself.
Progress isn’t linear.
If you are looking for direction…IMHO: Brother Steve’s whistle pages(often mentioned in this forum) are a good place to start.
