I have a set of five Sindts, lovely whistles, and a Cook low E, a wonderful whistle. I also have my first set of whistles - a trio of Susatos. These have become my carry-around whistles - for those times I find myself waiting in the car for my wife to come out of the store. The Sindts are my Serious Whistles - for real practice.
Today I received a Meg and a Susato F VSB. I have to say that the Susato F is a wonderous instrument. It’s the highest I’ve ever played and, along with my Sindt Eb, I have decided I love my whistles high. They are so responsive in that range! The most fun I’ve had in a long time was tonight - playing along with Hard Boiled Hep by Jellyroll.
I also like Jazz pennywhistle. Cool! My favorite whistle to play that style is my Chieftain D. Not only does it have a nice, flute-like tone, but I can really push and attack notes, emphasizing dynamics and accents, in ways I can’t on my other whistles–much more fun. I have a Sindt D on order. How do those sound when playing jazz?
Jeff, If you like high whistles and the Susato F, you’ll have to try the high G some time. It’s tight on the fingers, and rather piercing; in the upper octave, it would likely cut through anything.
I was thinking about the G this morning. I’m torn between getting a mid-range one that will let me play all those Aminor pop songs in my collection, or one that will bring all the neighborhood dogs (and rats, I presume) to my front door.
