does anyone know what the sticky tac tweak is? it was mentioned on a recent message…dg
http://www.chiffandfipple.com/tweak.html
As for the sticky stuff itself, it’s manufactured by Ross, it’s non-toxic, measures 2x1 oz, weighs about 2 oz. and it stays moist. It’s called Tac’N Stik. It comes in a hanging bubble pack, which is blue red and yellow. It costs about $3.20 and you can get it at any office supply store and sometimes big hardware stores. American Glue Company, Taylor, MI 48180, reorder #98620, made in USA, packed in Canada. Want the blurb off the package?
Let it shine!

But what do you do with the sticky tac?

You start with cheap whistles and no fear!
Take a cheapo whistle, say Generation. Pull the plastic head off. (If yours is still glued to the shaft, stick whistle head-first in a cup of hot, not boiling, water until it comes off and then remove the glue residue.) Now take the head and look into the big opening where the shaft goes. You will notice a cavity underneath the windway. Take the sticky tack and fill that cavity. Then put the whistle back together (which is now tunable, sorta). Originial versions of this tweak used beeswax, others prefer epoxy, which is permanent. Rumored not to have a noticeable effect on Feadogs.

Sticky tac is not the only substance you can use by the way. I prefer beeswax. However, if you leave your whistle in the sun or somewhere hot, like on your dashboard, it is possible for the wax to melt and run and make a big mess depending on the grade of beeswax you use.
-Sorry Bloomfield, didn’t see you mentioned that. By the way my feadog is my only cheapy that I thought sounded worse after the cavity fill.

I am still unclear as to what effect this is supposed to have on the sound of the whistle - could somebody elaborate? I think somebody mentioned this as a possible solution to my “buzzing” Oak D.
Also, has anybody tried silicone sealant instead of sticky tac or epoxy? Silicone easy to work with and is non-toxic once cured. It doesn’t adhere well to some plastics though so maybe it would just fall out ![]()
Gary, there is great merit to a tweak that isn’t permanent! You try it, you don’t like it, you untry it.
As opposed to me with the sandpaper/razor blade/dremel…one cheap whistle down the tubes.
I actually tried the tweak with ordinary candle wax and it worked! One filler got too cold and fell out later, and another melted all over the seat of my wife’s car so I replaced them both with my version of sticky-tack, which is butyl tape (used for sealing auto winshields, boat hatches etc.) A caution using candle wax. It’s a nice temporary way to try the tweak out, but don’t use scented wax. I did, and the smell eventually made me want to throw up.
Anna,
What if you want a really big box. Where would you get that? ![]()

Have 'em order a case at a South Dakota hardware store. Between tons of the stuff
and Custer wearing Arrow shits, I’m racking up a whole bunch of stuff you guys can tease me about! I really should be nice and just send the guy some, huh?
what is the desired benefit of the tweak?
No one really knows…tweak and you shall find!Peace

Theirs was not question why,
theirs was just to tweak and try.

I’ve tried BlueTac for tweaking, common in the UK for sticking up posters. I thought this was what you guys meant by sticky tac, but from your description maybe not…
Anyway, I figured my Generations couldn’t sound worse than they do already, so if the BlueTac doesn’t work, I’ll try the steamroller tweak.
Blue tack is the correct name for sticky tack.Take care not to over-fill the cavity.. for best results begin with a small amount and keep pressing in more until you reach the sweet spot. Peace,Mike ![]()
