Sticky Poll. Round 2

Which option would you prefer regarding flute forum stickies?

  • Unstick “Posting Clips”
  • Unstick “YouTube Thread”
  • Unstick “Flute Photos”
  • Unstick “78 RPM”
  • Combine the stickies into one generic sticky with links to the above threads.
  • Leave the stickies as is.

Round 2, adding the Sticky Consolidation Option.

consolidation = depreciation of itm flute music.

more like an index to important threads, innit?

Consolidation of the stickies is a bad idea. No longer would I be able to see at a glance if a new clips has been posted, or a new photo. Leave well enough alone, please. Cheers,

Rob

I agree with Rob–it’s fine as it is.

Jeanie

the thread being at the top and marked as having a new post is not a clue?

Do you have a hypothesis of why I’d be motivated to depreciate itm flute music?

Yeah, but in which sub-thread? I don’t see what’s wrong with just leaving things the way they are. Where’s the problem here?

Rob

The list of threads is by last posting date & time descending.
The thread, linked to in the sticky thread, will behave as any other thread…
that is the thread most recently posted to is at the top (and marked as having a new post)

The single sticky, with links to the important threads, would only be needed by someone wanting to read or post to one of the threads linked to in it.
It is an index…a simple means of finding the thread in question.

These full sentences are killing me.

it’s the crown, innit!

Is “ITM” as an entity, if indeed it is/has such a thing, capable of deprecIation? That would imply it had monetary value as a commodity. Indubitably some performances of ITM have such value, but the abstract, aesthetic continuum?

Unfortunately, deprecating ITM is all too easy. Fiddle-dee-diddle-dee-dee! (Not me, I merely demonstrate to remonstrate…careful I’ll be rapping next, or getting my knuckles rapped by those who deprecate and fail to appreciate puns and word play. :smiling_imp: But then, my stock has probably already depreciated off the scale with those folks :sunglasses: . )

I’m quite sure Dale would not do either! (Not sure how he could do the one with an I in the middle, even if he did want to!)

More seriously, I think, after considerable mulling of this point, that the main disadvantage of the combined sticky would be that the actual threads would lose their present clear visibility, wherein lies their main virtue - they remain prominently visible whether active or temporarily dormant. Therefore I voted against any change.

That’s not accurate.

Any of the thread that has a new post will still appear at the top of the list, just like new posts push any other thread to the top. The only difference is that those threads listed in the sticky will get extra billing (advertising).

In fact, one could argue that if those current sticky threads are set free, any new postings will be much more visible than they are now.

We don’t lose anything with the consolidation idea.

Hey, can you hear the mob chanting, “Set the stickies free!” ?

It is causing any problems having multiple stickies?

–James

That’s my question too. I don’t understand what’s the problem with it…

I’d say leave the stickies as is.
But I have no problem if you combine the stickies into one generic sticky with links to the above threads.

For some of us, the present number of stickies clutter up the top of the list.

A more positive reason to move to one consolidated thread is that then we’d be able to add other helpful or popular threads to the consolidated page without worrying about further cluttering the index page listing. I sense that the moderators and Dale have resisted adding new stickies (in my opinion, for good reason).

On the first page of the flute forum, there are approximately 50 threads.

There are 6 stickies. They take up less than two inches of my screen from top to bottom.

If we had 30 of the things, I think I could see that it might be a problem and an irritation.

At the current count of 6, it seems a bit like a child carrying an empty bucket, worrying about what it will weigh when it’s full.

Just my $.02.

On a low-res screen, such as a laptop, all you can see are stickies. And that’s with banners disabled.

  Yes. Too much Crown Induced Noggin Presure.
