Is this a good workshop for beginners?

There’ll be 4 wokshops for pipes. One each at beginner, intermediate and advanced and one for slow airs which would be considered intermediate to advanced.
Definitely a place for all skill levels.

That is an amazing lineup of pipers…and several world-class pipers usually show up for the weekend as well.

Worth a road trip for any northern pipers :thumbsup:

I may be visiting family in St. Louis then, so maybe I can swing by for a day. I’d really like to check it out and meet some more pipers.

I’ll have words of songs and recordings of others playing the tunes.

Hi Tommy,

I don’t suppose you’re going to also be doing a slow air workshop at the SE pipers’ club tionol? I was hoping to attend it and that would be an irrestible draw for me (I live in the Baltimore area and have family near Atlanta).

Bump.

I also wanted to let you know about the slow airs class that I’ll be doing.

The objective is to teach you how to teach yourself to learn slow airs from recordings of other musicians and singers.

To explain the correlation between instrumental air playing and the ebbs and flows of a singers voice I will use recordings of 5 songs and 5 pipers playing the same pieces.
(e.g. Bonny Bunch of Roses, Donal Og, Aisling Geal, A Stor Mo Chroi and The Parting Glass)

With the exception of one, these songs are in english so it will be easier to follow the syllabic structure and emotive phrasing of the song.
After examining these songs, other airs that don’t have any words will be examined to see what can be done to interpret them as well as we can.

Of couse I will also spend time on the physical elements of playing airs on the pipes.
Tone colouring, vibrato (if and when), octave control, drone control, regulator use, etc.
