Spittle in the Embouchure

Ok, so I’m playing my Open Whistle, which is basically a Quena flute with Low D fingerings. It plays like a flute, which is why I’m posting here…do any of you have trouble with a little ball of spit forming on the bottom lip as you’re playing? It then proceeds to do most undignified things to the player, instrument, and music as it goes off to explore the world.

Does this happen to transverse flutes? Any tips on avoiding it?

If anything I end up normal to dry after playing. It may be that the flute is held with the head pretty level while you may be a bit chin down with your open ended flute. Just a wild guess on that one. Good luck

Second that comment. Don’t play Quena but when I lower my head or even just chin while playing flute all kinds of wet sloppy spitty things happen over time. I see some flute players with their head forwards or tilted and forwards and wonder how they do it.
