Spider ID?

Anybody know of a good website (ha ha!) for identifying spiders?

I was cleaning out my cupboards yesterday (doing a very thorough cleaning, due to a recent invasion of meal moths) and came across two spiders in the back of the cupboard. I was initially quite freaked out, because they’re the same size and shape as black widows, but on closer (very careful!) inspection, they proved to be dark gray rather than black, and they lack any red markings.

I would like to know what they are, however, just to be on the safe side.

On the plus side, once you remove the food source (other incests), there will be no reason for them to be there.

Sooner or later, some pedant is going to come along and point out that (as well as the nicely Freudian spelling there  ) spiders, of course, aren’t insects. I might as well volunteer.

Out of interest, are scorpions insects?

Anyway, back on-topic, there are plenty of European spider-identification sites around, but I haven’t found many US ones. I suspect that this is because of where I’m Googling from.

How about this one?

a usually unnamed ingredient in many Italian sauces…

Mealies or spiders?

Scorpions are arachnids, like spiders.

Hmmm…looking at the picture, it’s possible these are black house spiders. I don’t know their range, though.

I nearly had heart failure when that picture of the Huntsman spider moved!

I calls them all terrestrial arthropods. Hard to go wrong that way.
