Just got a pratten Somers from Dr. Jones. I love this flute. Really great flute for the price. I really like the responsiveness of this flute and the big sound from it.
Dr. Jones is a great guy to deal with. This was a great deal. I highly recommend him if you need a flute. Thanks Dr. Jones. And the dog is hanging in there thanks.

Congrats. They’re good. I got one like it from Doc a few months ago to serve as my travel/go-anywhere flute.
I’m still not a delrin fan, (too slippery), but that’s my only complaint. Gary is making very fine flutes for the price. You won’t do much better. Keep one propped up in the corner, and play it when you should be doing other things.

I have always found delrin to be too slippery, too, especially the Copley C flute I have. YMMV but he recommends a light coating of vaseline to keep it shiny, which I tried yesterday, and found it made it much less slippery. That seems counter-intuitive to me, but it did the trick.
I’ve now tried or owned most of the delrin flutes made
and my two cents is that I don’t much like how delrin sounds.
Prefer wood.

Yep, my Forbes is a bit slippery too. It bothered me at first but now I’m pretty used to it. When i first got it summer of last year i would rub just a hint of bees wax onto my fingers which helped a lot. BTW I believe Jon Cochran has a way of texturing the delrin to keep it from being slippery.
Vaseline does seem counter-intuitive but i’m curious to see if it works on my Forbes.
I used to have a delrin pratten from Jon; it and the Copley had more or less similar textures. Both felt slippery to me. The vaseline worked with the Copley, which is nice because it’s easier to relax when you don’t feel like you’re going to drop the flute, which is especially helpful for a larger flute
That’s what works for me. My Cochran is textured, and I had the same done when I owned a Seery. Easier to hold, and an appearance closer to a wood flute, as well. Oh, and Cochran is the name of the flutes, not Jon.
I got this model a few months ago and it has been great. Doing business with Doc is a bonus too.The Pratten hole size was a little daunting at first, but I find the responsiveness to be overall great, the workmanship excellent, especially the matte finish.
