Looking for the slow - haunting music (I don’t know if this is called slow airs or not) - whistle or whistle bagpipe combos. Would like to find both the cds and the music.
Suggestions appreciated
Thanks,
jim

Go to http://duigo.com and order his CD called Coumineol. The first cut is the most beautiful and haunting slow air I’ve ever heard. Also if you can find a copy of Emer Kenny’s CD, she does a very haunting version of Amhran na Leabhair (probably spelled wrong, but that’s close). I also like the soundtrack (available from Amazon.com) from the movie Rob Roy. It has a very haunting song sung by Karen Matheson of Capercallie, Alein Duinn. I also like the slow air at the end of the CD that comes with Dossan of Heather, a tune book available from lots of suppliers on Dale’s pages here. That should get you started! ![]()
Actually, this might help. Follow all the links and there’s a lot of info.

Appreciate the links and the information.
It would seem that new whistlers must follow basically the same path because my questions always seem to have been answered before on the board. I will try and search a little harder from now on.
Thanks again,
Jim
Don’t worry about it, Jim. I didn’t include the links to get you to stop asking, just to give you the maximum information. There are C&Fers who say everyone should search before asking, but I’m in favor of conversation, myself. Always feel free to ask.
Something else that might help is to get the tune book and CDs called Traditional Slow Airs of Ireland by Tomas O Canainn and Ireland’s Best Slow Airs (put out by Waltons). If the Whistle Shop doesn’t have them, then Ossianusa.com will. They come as a book/CD set.
If you want to build your own CD, http://fingertrip.net/whistle/ would be one place to find some–and it has the sheet music, too. Of course, they’re only played through a couple of times, but being slow, they generally last a couple of minutes each.
I downloaded the ones I like and have them set up to play in iTunes–though I can’t work and listen to music at the same time.
The slow ones are:
Inisheer
Róisín Dubh
The South Wind
Turas go Tír na nÓg
Amhrán A Leabhair
Sliabh Geal gCua
The Lea Rig
Several really nice cd’s I have that fit that description are:
Between the Worlds- Aine Minogue
Mysts of Time- Aine Minogue
Sea of Dreams- Davy Spillane
Aine Minogue plays harp and sings. There is some whistle in a few tracks. Spillane’s cd is mainly low whistle and uilleann pipes- lots of it.
Tony
i thought minogue was a hot chick.
