Congrats, Tom! Aren’t new loves the sweetest?

I’ve gone domestic lately (as opposed to musical) and spent yesterday evening at a dear neighbor’s, making mint jelly from my out-of-control mint patch.

My first jelly, and a success with her help!

Indeed they are Marguerite. Though my flute is my passion.
Man mint jelly. My grandma used to make it when I was a kid. I would sneek down to the celler and pop off the wax and down the hole jar. Never got cought. Never got sick. Course I used to drink her homemade pickle juice to. Tomato pickles, green tomato pickles. Oh man I miss that stuff.

Sorry Aldon, http://www.HORA.ro This is the factory and it took many emails to get a response. The model number is M1089 which is the only model they make I think. Don`t let the price fool ya. This is a good quality enstrument. They do credit cards. Walden posted a picture of his a while back. It took about 2 weeks to get here from the time I placed my order. Well worth checking out.

Aldon let me give you a hint about ordering from them. The first time I emailed them I put in the subject line something like order info or something like that. Never heard a word back from. I sent a couple of emails with similar subject lines. Nothing. Finaly on Waldens advice I changed the subject line to read Order for Bouzouki or words to that effect. Anyway if you know what you want just order it. They will send you a shipping reciept and request your credit card info. The shipping reciept will have the date of shipping and all that stuff. N. Bazgan is the name of the general manager. He is the guy that finaly answered my emails. Good luck.

I had a luthier make me a 6-course cittern. It was a pretty good instrument but I sold it. I just couldn’t manage to make it do anything I wanted. I much prefer four courses. Joseph Sobol has both 5 and 6-course instruments and he plays both on his Citternalia album. Both are made by Stefan Sobel.

Also the laúd, from Spain, the Philippines, or Latin America, is a very traditional form of 6-course cittern. The Bandurria, being its octave-higher mandolin equivalent. Someone has said that the Spanish ones have a peculiar bridge design, with tuning errors often purposely built-in for a “folksy” flavor, and that the Filipino ones with a regular mandolin-type floating bridge might thus be preferable.

Did it come with a case or do they make a case for it. I checked out their site and it didn’t seem to yield any clear cut answers.

They don’t come with a case, but a standard 5-string banjo case fits it. Lark in the Morning, also offers a bag for these.

I’ve been working on my mandolin so of course my thoughts have turned toward something bigger.

Also, note that the Hora “Rg2 Mandolin” (shown here) is a tenor mandola (like the old Gibson mandolas), which is intermediate in size and pitch between the mandolin and the bouzouki or octave mandolin. It is tuned to viola scale, CGDA, like the tenor banjos used in jazz music.
