She's awake!

Back at the hospital all day. Lesley was taken off the ventilator early today, after her medication was reduced, as she had started to fight it. It was so good to see her looking a little more normal.

I am a classical guitarist and do not normally play Lesley’s type of music, but I took some music from her file with me, and my guitar, with permission from the ICU staff. I struggled through some of the ones she loves - Well Hall, Bugeilio’r Gwenith Gwyn, De’il Tak’ the Warr, Hewlett, - fairly successfully but with no response. Then I tried something called The King of the Fairies, which I had not met but no doubt you all know well. I plodded through it to the second part and suddenly Lesley said, without opening her eyes, “Should be C sharp”. And of course she was right.

She is terribly frail and in a lot of pain, partly due to her extreme reactions to almost all medication. But she is herself, and she heard the music, and she smiled. Tomorrow I shall show her all your messages and she will be so thrilled.

The danger is not fully past, apparently, as her heart has been struggling and the pain she is in is an additional strain on it. I have told her this and she will fight it, I know. And of course we don’t know yet what sort of recovery she will make, but she is so positive and such a fighter that I know she will make something of whatever she has.

I just wanted to share this with you, my new and dear friends, who have been such an incredible support to me over this dark week, and have helped me keep my sanity and strength for her. I cannot thank you all enough.

I’m going to bed!

Roland (mr devondancer)

I’m so happy to hear any positive news! I continue to think about you and hope for all good things.

Susan

That is wonderful news!

Warm healing thoughts still coming her way, and yours.

Everyone’s a critic. Glad to hear of the improvement. Get well soon.

Great news!

Roland, you know of course that you’re going to have to take up the whistle now that you’ve been inaugurated into the Brotherhood of Tooters.

Give Lesley our love and tell her we look forward to her speedy recovery.

I’m playing only happy jigs today in honor of her waking up enough to sass you.

Doc

thank you for taking the time to let us know the good news!

much the same here…often a person will post a question that no one answers…
If I post some nonsense people will come out of the woodwork in droves with suggestions.
Sufficient irritation is the greatest motivator!

with love to you both.

Most excellent!! Ah but that makes me peepers teary!

IT’s good that she feels good enough to criticize.

Oh… now my cheeks ache!

That’s a definite.

You’ll have to get her out to Bude for a proper cream tea when she’s better, old chap, not one of them Devon ones with the jam and cream all skewiffy!

That’s an important C#!

A musician to the core! So glad to hear she’s awake!

Redwolf

Chiffers all over the world might be playing King of the Fairies for Lesley . . . I am!

Glad to hear she’s coming around.

I shall certainly be having a go. Oddly, I’ve never really learned it properly but I reckon I could just about do it without looking at notes (which I must never, never do, of course). Perhaps all that fairy energy will channel itself into glorious Devon tomorrow…

That is certainly good news. Thanks for giving us an update and do tell her she continues to be getting good thoughts and prayers sent in her direction.

that’s a relief. All good things are being sent her way, may her pain be light and lesson each day, we are eagerly awaiting her first post  I myself play classical guitar, but I play mainly celtic instrumental music I have arranged( all standard tuning ), but I took up uilleann pipes and whistles so I go round and round with the three of them.
All the best, Tansy
