Note Jack’s distinction: Learning the Music (ie the genre that is Irish Traditional Music) from sheet music is not just bad, it’s impossible.

However, learning tunes (ie individual pieces of the Music) from sheet music is acceptable, provided you have a thorough grounding in the Music.

In other words, if you don’t know the rules of the road, don’t get behind the driver’s wheel: Reading the handy little book is not going to make you a good driver.
