As you may have read, I recently sold my Gallagher 1/2 set. After giving it a go, I finally decided that one more instrument was too much and it was better to concentrate on my Dobro playing.
Seth could not have been more helpful. I sold the set and took them up to Seth to have them checked out before they were shipped out to the new owner. Seth is taking care of everything, including shipping the sets to the new owner (which of course I paid for). He’s adding new hemp, adjusting the reed, and making sure that the set is in perfect shape for the new owner. You can’t ask much more than that.
For those of you thinking of purchasing a set, I can tell you that my dealings with Seth have been exceptional and professional every step of the way. He has always taken care of me, and the great thing about a Gallagher set is that if you buy them and decide you don’t have the time to devote to them, you can sell them for what you paid and Seth stands behind his work 100%.
Glad to hear you have had such a good experience with Seth
There are others out there who perhaps wouldn’t go to such lengths
In fact they might even go as far or further in the opposite direction
Bill, as you’ve had a good experience of which I’m glad of and glad that there are such pipemakers out there.
I’ve had a not so good experience but I truly am pleased for you and heartened by Seth’s actions and professionalism
Well Maw, there are two sides to every story. But to post something that is damaging to a pipe makers reputation in a public forum when the pipe maker is not here to defend themselves or relate their side of the dispute, I find to be the lowest kind of behavior. If you have a legitimate issue, there are many other ways of finding satisfaction. Posting an unsupported and one sided cheap shot is, in my opinion, not one of them. My suggestion would be for you to edit your original reply, and I will do likewise.
Sorry you feel that way but maybe the Uilleann pipe community won,t be missing you either .Maw was only pointing out that not all pipemakers are as helpful as Seth , which I think is quite true ! So why the hostility
Well perhaps I missed his point. I understood his post to mean that he was directing his negative comments at Seth and that is what I was responding to. If, in fact, he meant it as a general comment about other unnamed pipers than I stand corrected and apologize.
I understood “There are others out there who perhaps wouldn’t go to such lengths
In fact they might even go as far or further in the opposite direction”
to mean there are others who wouldn’t go to such lengths to praise Seth. I see now what Maw meant. Misunderstanding on my part.
Thanks for your comments Rory, which is exactly what I was doing and Bill if you noticed I didn’t mention any name of any pipemaker only that I’d had a not so fortunate experience as yourself and as this is a forum I was just airing my feelings about it without damaging any one particular person.
Yes, Maw. I completely mis read your comment. I apologize. Seth had done me such a nice tern, that I reacted strongly when I thought he was being abused.
apologies accepted Bill, I am truly glad that you’ve had a great experience with Seth. The pipemaker(s) I refer to is certainly not him as I’ve not had any experience with him . However, it does help to boost my confidence in other pipemakers to hear of such service by this good man. Hats off to him.
Best wishes
Mark
Yeah, that Steven Covey, he can see through lots of things, and he surely is a man of great patience.
As for me, I was about to say, “Read the (&@(&@(#*@ post, you moron!”
But just then, looking out the window, seeing the fresh-fallen snow, and pondering about the fleeting loveliness of the world around us, and realizing what a beautiful world it really is, in spite of all its’ danger and troubled areas, I thought to myself, "Perhaps that there is a better way to respond… yes, a more meaningful, and appropriate response that I could share with my fellow brethren in the musical world at large, and in the uilleann piping community, which is so near and dear to me, and then I thought, …
I’m sorry to hear that others have had bad experiences with pipe makers.
I’ve had nothing but excellent service from both Nick Whitmer and Ray Sloan.
When I bought the practice set from someone else, I had them shipped to Nick and he made a new reed, swapped the bag to a left handed bag, and shipped them on to me in a couple of days. I paid for the new bag, reed and shipping charges…but no labor to make the changes.
Ray has provided great service on my 1/2 set. When it arrived damaged (the plastic end cap on one of the drones was broken), he immediately sent out a replacement and walked me thru putting it on. A few months later when I was having reed problems (mainly I believe now due to a newbie - me - feckin’ with it as well as weather changes), he sent me a new reed and refused payment in spite of my protests.
