Selling Flutes - Ebay Youtube etc.

Hi all,
Have recently found myself clearing out some instruments to make way for new arrivals.
Wondering if anyone has any experience and feedback on selling on ebay and featuring their instruments on youtube. Ebay seems to have lots of cheap instruments up, so I’m wondering if it may be harder to get fair price on a quality flutes?
Also see posts of people trying to showcase instruments on Youtube, anyone have any luck with that?

Cheers

Why not post here with links to YouTube clips?
Better for you and the buyer fee wise…
I’ve done both and always prefer to sell here to a known person with a board history.

I have actually just posted here as that was my preference over something on eBay right away. Always would rather them into the hands of someone who would properly enjoy them. Guess I’m a bit nostalgic for the days when you picked up instruments from people you knew.

I agree with dunnp. Dealing with someone directly through the board with history is ideal. Not only are there no ebay fees, but I like knowing my instruments are going to another player. I use ebay as a fallback when no one here is looking for whatever instrument I’m selling. Prices on ebay are mixed really, and many people seem to repeatedly list instruments at a price they’d be happy with until someone comes along looking for it, rather then list low and hope for the best.

I’ll deal with anybody anywhere and pay what is asked for a Rudall Carte F piccolo in ebonite or wood with x5 or x6 keys or even in pieces. Hope that doesn’t come over as desperate LoL

I sell instruments on ebay from time to time and I’ve never had any problems.

There is a lot of rubbish there so you want to make your quality item stand out.
The key is to provide a very detailed description of what your selling and plenty of good photo so you look like a serious seller.
You want to encourage discussion with interested bidders so they will ask questions. A link to a youtube video helps, but people don’t necessarily want to be entertained by your wonderful music, they just want to see a video to know that the instrument is in as good condition as you say it is.

If you are auctioning instruments, try not to sell other random items at the same time. I mean, if you had a nice 8 keyeyd flute, a pair of old shoes and some Star Wars action figures, you may not get the same respect (as a seller) as someone who is just selling music related items. People do click that ‘See other items’ button!

But there are other outlets too. Apart from here, there are a lot of instruments for sale pages on facebook too.

Best of luck with the sale!!

Thanks Tompipes - all good advice. I think I will stick to the related sites for now. Not in a big hurry to move anything at the moment so may be better to stick with the related sites. I could see how eBay would be good to move something on a specific timeline. Thanks for advice on multiple sales on eBay, hadn’t thought of that.
