Do you know of any conventions, gathering of Whistle makers/dealers or individuals with stellar collections? I am willing to travel (I live near Austin, Texas), especially for a gathering of other players! I am a professional recording artist (harp, flute, vocals, and of course, whistle) who would love to buy some more whistles. I would just love to hear what’s available. Thanks for your help! Laurel
If you’re ever near New York city, I have a collection you could sample.

Well, the way I got to try a buncha whistles was by participating in our West Coast whistle party. If there are enough Texans on the board within a decent distance, you ought to throw one. Seriously. There were tons of whistles at our party. I thought I had a lot of whistles, but I was a piker in that bunch.
I tried: Elfsongs, Riordans, Raindogs, Busmans, Reyburns, Sindts, Serpents, Dixon and Overton, etc. As I only own Burkes, Gens, Feadogs and Susatos, it was really a treat. I mean, you can’t play em long enough to really get analytical but at least you can get an idea of how they look, feel and respond to what you get to play on them.
Good luck!
