Seeking 3 compartment flute roll

OK, I’m too cheap to buy a cavallero roll or something custom made by Colorado cases, but I would like a 3 compartment flute roll (preferably one that rolls up with ties on it, but I can use a rubber band if it doesn’t tie on it’s own).

Looking to spend $30 or less (any more than that and I can get a cavallero roll or Colorado 3 tenor recorder case for just a bit more). Anyone have one they want to sell or know where you can get one or something that works well as one?

If you know of an online source, links would be greatly appreciated.

The one that comes with Copley delrin flutes would serve you perfectly. I don’t see them sold separately on Dave’s website, but you could write to him and see if he can sell you one.

I use a presentation whisky tin with three pouches made of recycled leather.

Know anyone with a sewing machine? They are really simple to fashion yourself from a plush hand towel or fleece sweat shirt. Couldn’t be much easier, really. I make mine with a layer of Polar Fleece for the inside and a layer of Supplex nylon on the outside.

Feadoggie - I may end up making it myself. I am the person I know with a sewing machine, and I’ve made full dresses for my wife and much of the renaissance festival and SCA gear I use myself. I just hadn’t thought of it. The only problem with making my own is that sewing brings out my inner sailor. I swear like a madman usually clearing the room as my verbal assault floats through the air.

So…I’m really open to paying a bit. If I’m going to sew, it better be worth it.

 Geewillikers, if you can sew Ren clothing a flute roll would be a walk in the park. Give it a go -even if it ends up having a nautical theme.

A few of the bag makers I knew of have gone out of the business. I think Northern Heritage arts still makes them. They may be a bit more money than you quoted. You could inquire though. http://www.heritagemusic.net/

I have a Copley bag as mentioned earlier. They are simple and effective.

Tony Dixon has a four pocket or three pocket Cordura bag for his polymer flutes too - very simple, but fits a short foot flute.

Hey Eric,

A real quick and easy roll can be made from the leg of a pair of pants, old set of jeans or other durable material.

My wife is getting ready to retire pretty soon, and we have been talking about making flute bags, since we now have four sewing machines, and a Pfaff serger. What I need right now are ideal dimensions for several standard bags for 2-piece and 3-piece flutes. I’m trying to have craft money coming in and not bleeding out in well-intended but expensive charity projects. After all, at a certain point the relatives have enough quilts, etc.
