Very enjoyable, but I was disappointed that there was no mention of her smashing early work with Éamon De Buitléar and Ceoltóirí Laighean. They only made two records, but they were huge influences on me early on. I wore out the tape of “An Bóthar Cam”, I played it so much.
In some shots it looked like she was playing a Sindt head with a Gen tube (based on the label on the tube).

You can see young Mary depicted on the cover, along with a young Paddy Glackin and Aibhlín McCrann. These two albums are still among my very favorites ever. Besides being a snapshot in time of ITM in the early 1970’s, there is something there for everyone - outstanding box playing, fiddling, whistling, harping, singing, and even a little piping. The first album, “An Bóthar Cam”, was recorded live at a performance and the second “Star of Munster” was recorded in a studio. It just doesn’t get any better than this, in my opinion (though I admit some of it is my nostalgia for that time period, when I lived in Ireland for a few years as a young man). I can’t imagine any serious aficionado of ITM being disappointed in these recordings.
When I watched I was wondering about that too.
